75th Anniversary Gifts
Diamond and gold make up the traditional 75th anniversary gift, the last year on the US list. Hill's Manual (1888 edition) said a couple who reached it were "presented with the rarest gifts to be obtained."

Why diamond and gold for the seventy-fifth anniversary?
Gold carries over from the 50th, the golden wedding, and diamond from the 60th. The Chicago Public Library's version widens the choice to diamonds, diamondlike stones and gold. That leaves room for a small gold keepsake or a diamond simulant. Under FTC guides, a simulant must be labeled "imitation" or "simulated."
Keepsake certificates and the invitation
- If the couple married in Texas, the state sells an Heirloom Wedding Anniversary Certificate for $60. It is 11 by 14 inches and signed by the governor and the state registrar.
- Florida's Department of Health sells a commemorative marriage certificate signed by the current governor and the state registrar. The first costs $30, plus a $5 search fee.
- For a party invitation, Emily Post's 1922 Etiquette says the wedding year and the present year are usually stamped across the top. Her sample, for a 25th, reads "1898-1922."

Is the 75th the diamond anniversary?
It can be. The American Heritage Dictionary defines diamond, as an adjective, as "of or relating to a 60th or 75th anniversary." Maud C. Cooke's 1899 guide also put the diamond wedding at the 75th, though she wrote that it "occurs so seldom" it scarcely needed mention.
